Railway Signalling & telecom (s&t) Cable Laying
Simplex Electricals executes underground signalling and telecommunication (S&T) cable laying for Indian Railways. Our scope covers route survey, trench excavation, trenchless HDD track crossings, HDPE duct laying, cable terminations at signal boxes and location huts, and testing and commissioning in coordination with the Railways S&T department. With owned HDD rigs and RDSO-compliant execution systems, we are a trusted name for railway cable laying across Eastern India.
Overview
Railway signalling cable networks are operationally critical infrastructure. A single poorly executed track crossing, a mislaid cable, or an undertrained termination crew can have consequences for train operations across the country.
This is why S&T contractors and Railway divisions consistently seek execution partners with proven field discipline, not just civil digging capability. At Simplex Electricals, our underground teams have been laying S&T cables across active railway corridors for years. We understand track possession windows, RDSO crossing standards, the documentation expectations of Railway S&T departments, and the care required at signal box and location hut terminations.
Our owned HDD rigs allow us to execute track crossings independently. We work across Eastern India on both direct Railway contracts and as execution partners to S&T contractors and EPC firms.

Key Process and Scope Areas
Route Survey, Planning & Method Statement Preparation
Every project begins with a detailed route walk to assess the cable alignment, soil conditions, track crossing locations, and existing underground infrastructure. We prepare route drawings, crossing schedules, and RDSO-compliant method statements before mobilisation.
Trench Excavation & HDPE Duct Laying
Trenching is carried out manually or with mechanical excavators to the specified depth alongside or parallel to railway tracks, roads, or telecom routes. HDPE single-duct or multi-way duct systems are laid with correct bedding, sand cushioning, protective cover tiles, cable route markers, and joint pit preparation as per applicable railway or telecom specifications.
Trenchless HDD for Track & Highway Crossings
Track crossings under active railway lines and road crossings under highways are executed using our owned HDD rigs — with zero track possession required and zero surface disruption. Our RDSO-compliant crossing methodology meets Indian Railways’ requirements and are trusted by S&T contractors across Eastern India.
Cable Pulling & Laying Through Ducts
S&T cables and OFC cables are pulled or blown through installed HDPE ducts with careful management of bend radii, pulling tensions, and drum sequencing. Cable identity, drum numbers, and route sections are logged throughout to maintain end-to-end traceability.
Terminations at Signal Boxes, Location Huts
Cable terminations are carried out as per approved drawings and Railway S&T department specifications. For OFC routes, fibre splicing is executed at joint closures using fusion splicing equipment with splice loss values recorded per fibre.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
On completion, all cables are tested for continuity, insulation resistance, and — for OFC — end-to-end optical loss using OTDR equipment.
